If you see a squirrel in the Seattle area it’s probably an Eastern Grey Squirrel. They were introduced to Seattle in 1925 as a novelty to brighten the urban landscape and have taken hold. Meanwhile, the native Western Grey Squirrel is in decline and is pretty much only spotted near Olympia. Squirrel control becomes necessary when they nest in your attic or wall voids. They are very territorial and will almost certainly try to re-enter a cozy nesting spot that has been sealed off. That’s why using the proper materials and techniques is important for squirrel control.

How we control squirrels

  • Squirrels are active during the daytime, meaning they are often out foraging when we show up to the appointment. Ideally the squirrel isn’t home for the visit. We’ll seal the entry hole using galvanized mesh that can’t be chewed through and he will have to find another spot to live. A one-time exclusion like this costs $199 and includes a free follow up if he chews a new entry hole within 45 days.
  • Squirrel control is tricky because squirrels put in a lot of effort in to re-entering their nests. It’s not uncommon for squirrels to successfully chew a new entry hole, which is why we offer a free follow up within 45 days of your first visit.

What you can do to control squirrels

  • Bird feeders are a huge food source for squirrels. Install a baffle to prevent them from climbing the feeder post and make sure your feeder is at least 6 feet away from rooflines, trees, or other launch pads they might jump off.
  • Ask your neighbors to stop feeding the squirrels. Some Seattle residents find squirrels irresistible!
  • Inspect your roof vents every few months to look for frayed screens that should be replaced.
